IN AN unlikely pairing, legendary Australian film-maker Fred Schepisi has teamed up with young dance music hit-maker Kaz James.

Schepisi, who directed films including The Chant Of Jimmie Blacksmith and Six Degrees Of Separation, co-directed the video clip for James' solo single, Breathe.

"I sat down with loads and loads of directors and most of them didn't get it,'' said James, who used to be in dance outfit, BodyRockers.

"He (Schepisi) was the man for the job. It's the first one he's ever done so I think it was more than a bit of fun for him to be honest.''

Shot in James' home town of Melbourne last week, Schepisi co-directed the clip with cinematographer Ian Baker.

Breathe is released digitally on April 12 and is due in stores at the end of next month.

"It is kind of like a band performance with a narrative running through it,'' James said of the clip.

"We filmed a few endings so we'll see how it comes out.''

James, 25, leaves Australia tomorrow to showcase his solo material to record label executives in Miami.

His album is due for release mid-year and includes a mixture of up-tempo and slower dance tracks.

As the Australian half of dance duo BodyRockers, James enjoyed massive global success with the 2005 hit I Like The Way You Move.

Based in the UK for the past four years, James is probably as well-known there for his relationships as his music. He has been linked to a string of high-profile women, including Keira Knightley, Kate Moss, Mariah Carey and Peaches Geldof.
